It released its first Android smartphone in 2009, and Android tablet back in 2010. The company is among the biggest players in the smartphone market in the world. It is the world's largest manufacturer of mobile phones and smartphones.

Popularity of its Samsung Galaxy was a major success on the market. Regarded for developing the phablet market with the Samsung Galaxy Note family of devices. It has also developed 5G capable smartphones including the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 and foldable phones including the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung's flagship mobile handset line is the Samsung Galaxy S series of smartphones, which many consider a direct competitor of the Apple iPhone. The original Samsung Galaxy S smartphone was announced in March 2010 and released on June 4, 2010. Featuring display: 4.0" Super AMOLED display with 480x800 pixel resolution.

The company announced the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, consisting of the Galaxy S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra, on February 11, 2020. The S20 series are the first Samsung mobile phones with 8K video recording (7680×4320p), excluding the S20 FE. On January 14, 2021 the Samsung Galaxy S21 series was announced, consisting of the Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra. The operating system is based on Android 11.
